Influence of Poverty Gap and Severity Index on Production among Cassava based Farmers in Southern Nigeria

Background: Poverty has been a prevailing challenge among individuals and farmers most especially in the Nigerian economy. The study analyzed poverty status of cassava Agrarian region Cross River State, Nigeria. Methods: A multistage sampling technique was adopted selecting 120 respondents using structured questionnaire between 2019 2022. Data obtained were both descriptive inferential statistics. Result: Results showed that line estimated across all gender N 17,770.80 64.15% male non-poor while 35.85% them poor. Male recorded highest head count ratio (P0) 0.358. gap (P1) severity (P2) 9.8 4.8 per cent, respectively. Similarly, (P0), for female 32.8%, 9.7% 4% Drudgery/ inadequate access to modern equipment (2.74), high cost labour (2.64), perishability (2.60), transportation (2.55), fluctuation prices (2.43) lack improved variety (2.38) serious constraint faced by during their production area. Policies should be directed towards enhancing farmer income reducing inequality through credit facility based farmers.
